At START 2 Achieve we know how important it is to parents for their students to find and reach their academic potential. That's why you need a proven system (AFN) of specially trained professionals (Academic Coaches) to help insure their success.
1. Understanding your child
Perhaps you’ve tried
tutoring, mentoring or strictly enforced discipline techniques
(grounding). While you’re thinking college prep, your teenager is more
focused on being ‘cool’. It’s not easy raising children in today’s
world of

Messaging, moral uncertainties and pressures to achieve everyone else’s
ideas of success. To make matters worse, today’s schools are stretched
to the breaking point as they are forced to address everything from school safety
to global warming. Simply put, it is difficult for today’s students to
verbalize their level of frustrations - so they turn off the one part
of their lives which they seem to control - academics. AFN uses
academic team coaching to help students overcome whatever barriers
prevent them from achieving their potential.
2. It takes time
Whether training for a marathon,
building a championship sports team or working to shed some extra
pounds, we know that quick fixes rarely offer long term results.
Nontraditional students are no different. Since 1991 S2A
has helped struggling students, many of whom have failed one or more
courses, achieve their individual potential by offering sustainable
support as long as they might need it. Experience has taught us that it
usually takes at least 2 years (4 semesters) for most students to
develop the proper skills and attitudes necessary to turnaround
non-productive academic patterns. The sooner students enroll in our
program, the sooner they see positive results and long term benefits.
3. Options for participation
Most of our academic
teams will work with coaches during school at the school they attend.
However, beginning in 2010 AFN will also be available
in a variety of community-based centers outside of the regular school
hours. Coaches will still meet with small groups and offer the same
program for those locations where it is not available through the local
attendance schools. Our award winning program will soon be available
for remote locations and smaller districts through virtual groups via
the internet.
4. Parent Support
S2A is pleased to announce our
newest program designed to assist parents in their role as encourager
and guide. Through these sessions you will learn how to relate to your
student(s) and discover other parents who share your same concerns and
frustrations. While not very comforting, you might be surprised to know
that at least 35-40% of students in high school today will fail one or
more classes each year. Ignored, these failures combine with attendance
and/or other behavior problems as leading indicators for students who
will become dropouts or will not graduate on time. Pwr2Lrn can help
you, as parents, better understand what is happening and how you can be
involved in helping to ensure your child’s academic success.
Through a series of internet based webinars, you will get to hear from and dialogue with high school counselors and academic coaches about the best approaches in helping your student.
